Getting Through The Grind: A Happiness Solution

Entrepreneurship can be difficult at times, but it can also be a really incredible challenge and an amazing journey. I’ve found that one of the things that helps me to get through the day to day grind is to develop a consistent background of happiness that I can rely on when I need it most.

In this post, I’ll talk about how I do that, and a few books that helped me out along the way.

The most important key to staying in a positive mood at work is to develop a mindset that is centered around success. For this point, I am infinitely indebted to The Secret audiobook, which I listened to virtually every day on the way to work for almost a year.

happinessFor me, the process of continuously repeating the ideas Byrne talks about, about setting yourself up for success by managing your thought process and how your day to day thoughts impact the things that happen to you, was really important.

Before that, i hadn’t really placed much emphasis on noticing how I was thinking, but now I am much more aware of my thoughts and can easily recognize when negative thoughts or fears about money or failure begin to creep in.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to develop a success mindset.

The other book I really recommend is Hardwiring Happiness. This book isn’t about success or entrepreneurship, but is one that i think is essential for every entrepreneur and business owner to read. Hardwiring Happiness talks about the neuroscience of what makes us happy and unhappy, and then goes into a series of habits you can develop to trigger more happiness.

For example, it talks about how different chemicals are released into the brain depending on your mood, so whenever you’re depressed or angry your brain releases chemicals that makes it more likely for you to remain depressed or angry. On the other hand, when you’re relaxed and happy, chemicals like dopamine trigger more of that happiness.

Another great tips suggested in the book is to develop a habit of gratitude. Gratitude is an extremely important practice, because it literally trains your brain to look for the good things, rather than to focus on the challenges before you. You can download the Hardwiring Happiness mp3 on

For me, applying these techniques to my auto business has helped me to maintain my focus, set clearer goals and priorities and (I believe) build the business into a stronger position than it was before I began to think in this way.
